Fly into Windhoek the nation’s capital. From there, head out and explore the north west region. check out the Skeleton coast, and go on a guided or self drive ssafari through Etosha national park. This ruggedly beautiful landscape is home to an array of wildlife, keep yours peeled for Springbok, Lion, Giraffe and Ostrich, to name just a few.
2. Visit Fraser Island
Fraser Island is one of the best kept secrets in Australia. This enormous world heritage sand Island is accessed by car ferry a few times a day. Hike through the rainforest, swim in the Champagne pools, try some off-road driving, lookout for an old shipwreck along the coast. Just watch out for the Dingo’s.
3. The Drakenberg Mountain Range
The Drakenburg is an impressive and imposing mountain range in the eastern part of the Great Escarpment. Rising to 3,482m, this mountainous wilderness has an alluring and beckoning quality, a place that calls out to be explored. Try some day hikes or you’re feeling really adventurous you summit some the peaks such as Giant’s castle and Cathedral peak.
4. Hike to Angels Landing
Zion national park in Utah has some great hikes. Greatest amongst them is Angels Landing. Push through the strength shaping switchbacks, up to Scouts Lookout, where you are rewarded with some amazing views. Take a rest and a drink of water, then steel to yourself for the precarious ascent to the pinnacle of Angels Landing. The final half mile is very narrow and steep, so the bolted in chains are a welcome addition. Finally, at the summit of this adventurous hike are some truly awe inspiring vistas. Well worth the endeavour.
5. Visit The Lofoten Islands Norway
Above the Arctic Circle, off the northwest coast of Norway lies Lofoten. An archipelago of 7 principal islands, home to towering mountains, artic fjords, remote fishing villages, and a host of incredible wildlife. Head out there in summer to explore the hinterlands and marvel at the midnight sun, or in winter for the long dark of night and a chance to see the spectacular northern lights.
